A little piece of "Pair-A-Dice" in Rockford
Pair-A-Dice Cruisers car club cofounders Dar Koecher of Rockford (far left) and Ed Larson, Loretto, (far right) present a check for $500 to the Riverworks Food Shelf in Rockford on behalf of the club. Pictured in the center, left to right, are Riverworks Executive Director Denise Kesanen and Manager, Kelly Finger.
Members of the Pair-A-Dice Cruisers, a car club based out of Loretto, donated $500 to the Riverworks Food Shelf in Rockford just in time to help out with some of its holiday needs. This follows on the heels of a $500 donation made to the Delano Food Shelf by the club in December.
The Pair-A-Dice Cruisers is a local club whose members enjoy a common interest: cars. The club is in its twenty-third year and has 205 members on its roster, with at least 40 that actively participate.
In 1988 Dar Koecher and Ed Larson (along with their wives Mary Lou and Mary) decided to form a group that enjoyed all kinds of cars and wanted to have fun. They sat down and sketched what was to become the club’s logo on a bar napkin in Rockford. And, just like that, the Pair-A-Dice Cruisers car club was born. In its two-plus decades, the club has helped support the efforts of many local organizations including the Delano Nursing Home and victims of a recent apartment fire in Loretto. On the second Saturday in August, the club holds its annual car show, a well-attended event that boasts 250 exhibitors and their vehicles. At this event, donations for the Helping Hands Food Shelf are collected.
The Pair-A-Dice Cruisers welcome new members and encourage those interested to visit one of their monthly meetings, the second Tuesday of each month with the location posted at www.pairadicecruisers.org.
